Jasai
ESL TeacherJasai is a native English speaker from the United States and a TESOL- and TEFL-certified English teacher. He has experience teaching students individually as well as working with groups of up to 15 learners, and he enjoys creating lessons where students are actively involved rather than simply listening and memorising information.
He has also lived and studied in China and speaks Chinese at a conversational level. Learning another language himself has given him a much better understanding of what students experience — from trying to find the right word to building the confidence to speak even when you are not completely sure you will get everything right. That experience has taught him just how important patience, encouragement and practice are when learning a language.
Teaching Approach
Jasai uses pictures, examples, activities and plenty of conversation to help students understand English in a way that feels natural and engaging. Lessons are built around the student doing the talking, not the teacher.
Having lived and studied in China and learned Chinese to a conversational level, Jasai knows first-hand what it feels like to search for a word, to be misunderstood, and to speak anyway. That perspective shapes how he teaches.
If something is not landing, Jasai will explain it differently or spend extra time on it. He wants his classroom to be somewhere students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
His goal is for students to understand English and feel confident actually using it, rather than simply memorising words and grammar rules.

A Note from Jasai
Outside of teaching, I love basketball, running and staying active — I recently completed a marathon, one of the hardest challenges I have taken on. I think learning a language has something in common with running a marathon: progress takes patience, practice and persistence, but every step forward matters.
